Assisting voter registration has always been one of BC Project’s core projects. In the 2015 General Elections, we carried out various campaigns around the UK in order to encourage ethnic Chinese voters to exercise their right and live up to their civil duties.
Campervan National Tour
Armed with a 1978 yellow VW Campervan and a team of active volunteers, BC Project went around the country spreading awareness regarding the importance of political participation and registering people to vote. During the 11-day drive we gave out more than 600 set of voter registration packages in English and Chinese and we assisted around 250 Chinese voters to register. We also established and renewed partnership with different Chinese community organisations.
BC-OBV Voter Registration Bus Tour
In collaboration with Operation Black Vote (OBV) [www.obv.org.uk], BC Project delivered on-spot voter registration services and bilingual information packages across the country, including Manchester, Liverpool and Nottingham.
BC & Bite the Ballot
BC Project partnered with NGO Bite the Ballot for a youth political involvement project. On February 3rd 2015, Bite the Ballot put together a contract that was signed by local Birmingham politicians and by local young people to form an agreement the politicians would duly serve the needs of young people. BC Project supported this initiative by sending our youngest members to witness the declaration and to sign the contract.
